Why must some holes be pre-drilled during assembly?

This is important because wood is a natural material and its dimensions and shape can change slightly due to humidity, temperature and storage conditions. Drilling during assembly allows each hole to match the actual position of the wooden parts and fixing point precisely. Pre-drilling also significantly reduces the risk of the timber splitting or cracking when screws are driven in. Always drill the holes specified in the assembly instructions before installing the relevant screws.
