Air pollution also affects the lifetime of the film. If the greenhouse is close to a road, pollution can severely damage the film surface, reducing light transmission. Dirt can be washed off with water or special products.
Double film, i.e. two layers of film, may be used for greenhouse coverings. The air gap between the layers of film significantly reduces heat loss, but unfortunately also light transmission. The gap between the two layers is provided by a cord tightly stretched between the layers.
